Hello, we’re Countable Labs.

We’re here to solve your biggest problems in DNA quantification.

We believe the future of PCR is Countable. Quantification in genomics should finally live up to its promise.

We knew that the most essential part of genomics — quantification — has been stuck in tools like qPCR, digital PCR, and NGS that require too many tradeoffs to reach true accuracy.

From estimation and multiplexing challenges to workflow complexity and overhead, precision has always come at a price.

We built Countable PCR to change that. No more compromises. No more estimation. Just true target counts, at single-molecule resolution, with a straightforward workflow — finally making quantification as direct, reliable, and accessible as it should be.

We want to make diagnostics more accessible and enable the future of precision genomics.

We build genomics tools that push the boundaries of what’s possible because our ultimate goal is for patients to get easier access to clear insights about their health, especially when early detection changes lives.

This requires solutions that are more sensitive, more affordable, and less complicated.

That’s why we focus on developing technology that removes barriers for scientists doing the work — so they move faster and more confidently with everyday decisions in biomarker analysis, gene therapeutics, and clinical diagnostics.

Leadership Team

We’ve built tools that have changed the genomics landscape several times.

We’re a group of seasoned life science entrepreneurs, engineers, and scientists with a proven track record of redefining what’s possible in genomics, developing solutions from idea to commercial success, and building lasting brands.

Our founding team pioneered DNA microarrays, non-invasive prenatal screening, high-throughput single-cell NGS, and spatial genomics — and, together, holds over 60 granted patents.

Christina Fan

Co-founder + CTO

Christina is a pioneer in single-cell, spatial, and molecular counting technologies — which led her to co-founding Countable Labs. As Chief Technology Officer, she enjoys being an inventor, team builder, and strategist for the company, where she continues to develop novel technologies that enable simple, faster, and better solutions for discoveries and diagnostic testing.

Previously, Christina co-founded and served as CTO of Curio Bioscience, where she built the team from the ground up to bring spatial genomic technologies to market, leading up to its acquisition by Takara Bio USA. Prior to that, at Cellular Research, she invented a high throughput single-cell transcriptome analysis technique that led to the company’s acquisition by Becton Dickinson (BD). She subsequently led the technical team to help bring the single-cell technology to market.

Christina's contributions to genomics began as a graduate student at Stanford, where she co-invented methods to measure fetal aneuploidy from maternal blood, innovations that were licensed to Verinata/Illumina — and helped establish the non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) field as we know it today.

Christina received her PhD from Stanford University, is a recipient of MIT’s top 35 inventors under 35, and two-time recipient of Forbes Magazine 30 under 30.

Janice Lai

Founding Engineer + VP of Engineering

Janice has been at the heart of building Countable Labs’ category-defining genomics solutions from the ground up, as the founding engineer and first employee outside of the co-founders. Now as the VP of Engineering, Janice brings a true generalist mindset with a passion for applying principles from across engineering disciplines to solve complex problems in unexpected ways.

Before Countable Labs, Janice held roles at Cellular Research and later BD Biosciences, where she worked across hardware and software teams — from instrument and consumables development to building bioinformatics pipelines for single-cell multiomics. It gave her a deep understanding and appreciation for all parts of system building.

Outside of work, Janice is kept on her toes by two young boys. When time allows, she and her husband enjoy woodworking projects and traveling.

Janice earned her BS in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley and her PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University.
