Here are focus areas to help you think about what projects to submit for the grant.
- Rare event detection — I want to prove the rare markers I suspect are in my samples — low-expressing genes, minimal residual disease signatures, or hidden contamination — but today’s tools don’t give me the confidence I need.
- Challenging multiplex assays — I want to finally develop the multiplex assays I’ve set aside because of cross-reactivity, uneven sensitivity, or endless optimization — including QC and quantification for CRISPR edits where complex multi-target detection is required.
- New classes of PCR assays — I want to push PCR further — to run long amplicons (>2 kb), perform linkage analysis, and multiplex rare and abundant targets in the same assay — without hitting technical walls.
- NGS verification — I want to quickly verify my NGS results without the high costs and long turnaround times of sequencing — and with better precision and statistical confidence.
- NGS library quantification — I want to quantify my sequencing libraries without relying on qPCR or standard curves, and finally get true pmol measurements of my data.

Send your samples to Countable Labs.
Countable Labs runs the assays with your samples and delivers a report with the assay details and results.
You use the data to publish your research! Countable Labs will also sponsor you to present the results at a conference (travel stipend only).
Who can participate
- Scientists based in the US, EU, and UK who are working on proof of concept and pilot projects
- Participation is encouraged for research focused on areas where you may be stuck with current genomics tools. These include, but are not limited to:
- Rare event detection
- Challenging multiplex assays
- New classes of PCR assays
- NGS verification
- NGS library quantification
- Samples must be ready for shipment at the time of application submission and be eligible to be sent outside your organization

Do I own my data?
Yes — use it however you like.

Who is eligible to apply?
Scientists based in the continental US, EU, or UK who are working on proof-of-concept or pilot projects in genomics applications related to human health, disease detection, or cell & gene therapy.
Do I need to have samples ready?
Yes. Samples must be ready for shipment when you submit your application and must be eligible to be sent outside your organization.
What types of projects are most likely to be selected?
Projects with strong potential for impact in areas such as:
- Minimal residual disease detection
- Next-generation biomarker test development
- Biopsy analysis
- Cell & gene therapy development
What is included in the award?

Will Countable Labs cover all my research costs?
No. The program covers Countable PCR assay design, analysis, and data reporting, plus a travel stipend. Additional research expenses remain the responsibility of the awardee.
How many winners will be selected?
Awards are granted on a rolling basis to the strongest applications. Once all spots are filled, the program closes — so applying early increases your chances.
What is the application deadline?
Applications are due by September 30, 2025, but early submission is encouraged as awards are made on a rolling basis.
When will I know if I'm selected?
Winners will be notified by October 15, 2025, or sooner if selected early.
Do I need prior experience with Countable PCR?
No. Our team will guide you through the assay design process and handle all data generation.
Who owns the data?
You do. Countable Labs will provide the full data package for your use in publications, grant applications, or presentations.
Can I collaborate with Countable Labs scientists?
Yes. You will meet with our experts and scientific advisory group to refine the project design before assays are run.
Is there a cost to participate?
No. There is no fee for selected awardees.
Do applicants receive anything if they're not selected?
Yes. All eligible applicants will receive a complimentary Countable Labs gift as our thanks for taking the time to apply.
